Refurbishment of Mercedes Car Dealership Munich
Refurbishment of Mercedes Car Dealership Munich
New, company and used cars are exhibited and sold in the Mercedes-Benz Centre Munich over an area covering approx. 14,000 m². The high room of the atrium, spanning several stories with a glass roof and two platforms which can be reached via stairs, offers every option for elegant presentation. Unfortunately, the flooring which consisted of an open pore coating of epoxy resin and quartz sand, was found to be unsuitable. Despite intensive efforts it was almost impossible to clean. The owners decided on a refurbishment in spring of 2009 due to the unattractive and cracked appearance. The problem: All work needed to be implemented during working hours and therefore needed to be as low dust and as quiet as possible. It was therefore decided to work in the following manner: The flooring was processed in sections of approx. 500 m². Existing cracks were filled with the aid of the low-viscosity, solvent-free special primer PCI Epoxigrund 390 and then coated with the armour mat PCI Armiermatte GFS so that the glass fibres in the armour mat were oriented at right angles to the cracks, effectively increasing the flexural strength (rigidity) of the floor structure. The entire floor surface in the atrium, including the platform surfaces, were primed with PCI Gisogrund 404. This product is based on a modified synthetic resin dispersion, providing a high level of adhesion for numerous absorbent and non-absorbent substrates. This was followed by the laying of the 40 x 40 cm porcelain stoneware tiles from Villeroy & Boch. The lightweight and non-sag flowable adhesive PCI Nanoflott light was used here - a specialist with regards to laying large-format tiles. PCI Flexfug was used as joint grout, while PCI Silicofug E was used for expansion joints. This is an ideal material for "high-speed building sites". Four tile-layers from the Munich company Helldobler GmbH laid around 14,000 m² of tiles in the atrium sales area of the Mercedes-Benz Centre in Munich-Neuhausen during the six- month construction period.
