European Championship Stadium in Warsaw
Warsaw's brand-new National Stadium is among the most modern objects of its kind in Europe. It makes 58,000 seats available for football games and just under 73,000 seats for concerts. A technical highlight is the heatable playing surface atop an unheated underground car park. A heavy-duty insulation layer had to be put in for this purpose in-between its ceiling cover and the heating elements so that the heat gets to where it is actually needed. Thanks to their outstanding thermal insulation and high level of resistance to pressure, the large-format foam glass boards from Glapor Werk Mitterteich GmbH were used for the insulation of the oval. Because of its brittleness and disinclination to adhere, foam glass has to be embedded all over in bitumen adhesive during installation. The foam glass boards were bound together using the exceptional two-component bitumen adhesive for insulation boards PCI Pecimor DK from PCI Augsburg GmbH.
