THE STORY
"The client, himself a tiler, wanted to design his bathroom in his new home as a wellness oasis with a very personal touch. He chose elegant glass mosaic for the shower area and wanted the exact same turquoise tone for the grouting. This was made possible by PCI Durapox Premium Multicolor. The New epoxy resin joint mortar had just come onto the market. Using the PCI Durapox Premium color spectrum, he found the right anthracite joint for the 90 x 90 centimeter porcelain stoneware on the floor.
The client exclusively used PCI products for laying and jointing. He appreciates the well-coordinated products. He knows from many years of experience that the result is flawless and long-lasting!
A REAL EYE-CATCHER: GOLD MOSAIC FACADE IN NEUSS
The object
Gold mosaic facade on a commercial building in Neuss
The task
- Laying and grouting 51,000 gold leaf mosaic tiles on a building facade
Our solutions
To lay the mosaic, the processors used the frost- and weather-resistant reaction resin mortar PCI Durapox NT plus. The extremely high tensile strength of the adhesive was intended, among other things, to prevent the valuable mosaics from becoming detached from the substrate.
When it came to grout, it was important to get the right color. Because the joints have a decisive influence on the overall appearance and effect of the facade, especially in this extraordinary object. A case for PCI Durapox Premium Multicolor: The epoxy resin grout launched by PCI at the beginning of 2020 is available in hundreds of colors - the first grout on the market.
In addition to the huge selection of colors, the high level of processing comfort of the PCI Durapox Premium Multicolor also scores points. Thanks to its smooth consistency, the epoxy resin joint mortar can be used as easily as cementitious mortar, with just one hand and without special tools. The washing behavior also corresponds to that of cement mortars. In combination with PCI Durapox Finish, no residual haze remains. When grouting the gold mosaic tiles, it was also important that PCI Durapox Premium Multicolor can be processed even at low temperatures.
THE STORY
"Everything that glitters is gold: A builder in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, decorated the facade of a commercial building with 51,000 mosaic tiles made of gold leaf. The exactly matching color of the PCI Durapox Premium Multicolor joint mortar perfectly rounds off the extravagant gold mosaic look and made this possible Grouting even at low temperatures.
At the inauguration in May 2020, a murmur went through the rows when the wrapping came down and revealed the shiny golden facade of the commercial building in the middle of Neuss's pedestrian zone. Invited guests, numerous passers-by as well as the press and television took part in the celebration, which owner Georg Wentges hosted on a red carpet in front of the building. The 80-year-old explained that he wanted to leave something lasting for the city and was visibly pleased with the successful gold facade. The craftsmen completed the extraordinary installation object in just six weeks. The 51,000 gold leaf mosaic tiles are protected by glass made from recycled Italian wine bottles. This is intended to make it impossible for thieves to remove the gold from the mosaic tiles."
